Douglas Murray Eco Architect - Profile

May I extend a warm welcome to my web-site.

A little about myself.

I graduated with B.Arch.(Hons.) in 1970 in Edinburgh, then worked in private practice in Edinburgh until moving north to work with private architects in Dingwall in 1973.

On 1 May 1979 I started practice in my own right dealing with a wide range of projects from house extensions and alterations, to one-off homes, doctors’ surgeries, community centres, hotel and other commercial work, and work in Conservation Areas and on Listed Buildings, in an area covering from Boat of Garten to Wick, and Lochcarron to Scourie, as well as the Outer Isles and Skye.

Twenty-nine years on and I want to concentrate my work on the design of ecological buildings only. This does not mean necessarily the design of new buildings as rejuvenating old buildings, particularly buildings which are Listed or in Conservation Areas, is also regarded as ecological.

My interests, other than architecture, include the natural environment, Scottish life, history and traditions, geology and, more recently, pottery and ceramics.
